PURCHASING A LETTER JACKET - START TO FINISH

 

Three to four times a year, the Silver Hawk Booster Club hosts a letter jacket night at the Silver Hawk Booster store, located right next to the LSW main office. Because of the cost and customizing of the letter jacket (all sales final), we require that students be fitted for their letter jacket to ensure that it will fit them their entire 4 years at LSW. We also encourage all students to bring a trusted adult with them when placing the letter jacket order, if possible, since this is a one-time only purchase.

 

After placing the order, a Silver Hawk Booster Club representative will order the letter jacket from the manufacturer, have the embroider customize the jacket and will distribute them after school from the Booster store once completed.

HOW MUCH DOES A LETTER JACKET COST?

​

The letter jackets initially range in price between $150-$190 (depending on the style) and after customizing the price usually falls between $200-$300. The Boosters only charge enough to break even; the high cost of the jacket is due to the quality of the materials (true leather) and the embroidery/sewing work that is involved in customizing the jacket. There are three different styles of letter jackets to choose from.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO LETTER JACKET NIGHT?

Your letter and a form of payment (credit card, cash or check).

I LETTERED IN MORE THAN ONE THING. DO I NEED TO BRING ALL OF MY LETTERS?

​

No, you only need to bring one letter. If you lettered in more than one area (i.e. athletics and academics) and you want to recognize both, bring one of your letters and we will sew an additional ribbon to your letter before adhering it to your jacket. Click here for ribbon placement options

WE LOST OUR LETTER - NOW WHAT?

​

If you lettered in athletics, please see the Athletic Department. If you lettered in Academics, please see the main office. If you lettered in an activity outside of athletics or academics, please visit your activity sponsor.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY CUSTOMIZING?

​

Each letter jacket includes the following, with some items being optional (*). We encourage you to start thinking about what you want added to the letter jacket prior to letter jacket night.

• Letter (with optional ribbon added if you lettered in more than one category)

• Name (first, last, or an appropriate nickname)

• Year that you graduate*

• Chevrons for each year that you letter*

• Chenille on the upper back*

• Embroidered activity or sports listed on the middle back*

CHEVRONS - HOW MANY CAN I HAVE?

 

Chevrons are based upon the number of years you have lettered in something, not the number of activities you have lettered in. The maximum number of chevrons anyone can have is 4, and putting chevrons on your jacket is optional.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET MY LETTER JACKET IN?

​

We hope to have the letter jacket in your hands 2-3 months after ordering. Unfortunately, it is a lengthy time-consuming process. We give priority to seniors and complete their jackets first.

I ALREADY HAVE A LETTER JACKET AND I LETTERED AGAIN. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

 

If you would like to add to your existing letter jacket, please bring it to letter jacket night. There are multiple ways to recognize your achievements on your letter jacket but you must take what you have done in the past into consideration.

• If you have previously lettered in the exact same sport or activity and your jacket currently has chevrons on the sleeve, you can add an additional chevron. This is only if you have not already added a chevron for this year onto your jacket. If you do not wish to add chevrons, then you do not need to do anything.

• If you have lettered in something new, you can do one or more of the following (all optional):

  • Add a chevron for lettering again (if you haven’t already added one for this year)

  • Embroider the name of the new sport/activity on the back (if you have your lettered activity/sport on the back)  

  • Add a ribbon indicating that you lettered in a new activity that falls under a different category than what your current letter states (i.e. If you have an academic letter and want to add music).

I WANT TO ORDER A LETTER JACKET BUT THE LETTER JACKET TIME DOES NOT WORK FOR ME. NOW WHAT?

If you’re unable to attend letter jacket night we ask that you wait until the next one.
